This is where all persons, with the exception of Junior members, who join the Squadron, are enrolled. These members do not normally participate in Call-Outs or Operational functions, except radio monitoring duties, which we encourage them to do.
They are welcome to attend any of the social activities, or to assist in functions, displays put on by the Squadron, and enjoy the facilities and friendship the squadron offers.
Person from various facets of life have applied for membership, so enhancing their role in Squadron activities.
Courses conducted at the Squadron are open to all members, also their immediate family for a small fee. Again we encourage you to participate in them.
OPERATONAL MEMBERS :
This is the Heart of the Squadron and any member, who can show they have the qualifications to ensure their standing in Seamanship,or on completion of the Squadron Seamanship course may apply to the Ops Captain for operational status and participate in operational duties.
The Ops Captain will allocate you to either Shore or Sea Duties. This group wear uniforms when involved in any squadron activities although not expected on call-outs. An Operational Procedure Manual is issued covering the expectations of this section.
It is also expected operational members will peruse further training/courses and acquire the necessary qualifications in all subjects listed, though there is no time limit.
The Owner Skippers are the heart of this category. They make their own valuable craft available for use in search and rescue operations and training exercises. It is on these craft that we need operational personnel to crew as navigators or radio operators and observers.
Our shore control unit under the guidance of the Field Command officer, require persons to assist in launching and retrieving craft not forgetting radio duty..
OPERATIONAL RESERVE :
For a variety of reasons these members are unable to participate in normal operations, though they have necessary qualifications. Should a major emergency occur, or if there is a major shortfall in manning, then these persons are called upon to assist.
Vessel owners in this category are listed in the operational register as Aux Flotilla members.
SENIOR, LIFE, & HONORARY MEMBERS :
In addition to the other categories, and for a varity of reasons, a member may be granted this category by the Executive Committee under the Constituion/Bye Laws of the Sea Rescue Squadron Inc.
